A True Friend (TF) is a friend that can use open chat with another friend. They can only talk to a friend with Open Chat when they are your True Friends. SpeedChat Plus allows players to chat with non-True Friends and even non-friends. However, SpeedChat Plus only allows its dictionary words to be used (see SpeedChat Plus).

In order to become a "TF" with someone, both the toons that want to be true friends must be members and one of the friends must get a code. There is a special button that generates a pre-made code (which always starts with "TT"). The other friend must enter in their friend's code within 48 hours (2 days) or the code will expire,

Some people may not see the "Get a True Friend code" button, this means if they are under the age of 18, their parent/guardian must verify you may True Friend. If they are over 18, they can verify this by clicking Membership on the Toontown website.

The options that come up when someone logs in to their Parent Account. They can change the options there. Once they log in to their normal account again as a member, they can now use True Friends Chat!
